A cavity is typically the result of poor oral hygiene habits that allow the natural bacteria in your mouth to exploit a small amount of tooth enamel. This typically starts out as a small area of tooth decay that Dr. Lonnie Anderson can usually repair with a simple dental filling.

When a cavity is allowed to spread, the area of tooth decay might grow too large to be repaired by a dental filling. In a case like this, our dentist might recommend treating the tooth with a dental crown. This will fully replace the entire tooth enamel layer with another material like gold, porcelain, or a metallic alloy.

The crown will need to be anchored in your mouth by an abutment made from the healthy core of the tooth. This requires removing all of the existing tooth enamel and taking an impression. This information will be sent to an off-site dental lab where your dental crown will be created by highly trained dental technicians.

When the dental crown is ready, you will need to come back to our clinic to have it installed. Dr. Lonnie Anderson will secure it onto the abutment with a strong dental adhesive.
